**Contest Results!**

  • Listening to: library white noise
  • Eating: hungry
  • Drinking: water
Okay guys, after much deliberation and procrastination on several essays, the results are in! Everyone did a beautiful job and made it really hard on me to decide, so I’ve amended the prizes a bit, see below!

First Place
That Ridiculous Noise by =coNstantine2530

Congratulations :iconconstantine2530:! A lot of effort obviously went into this sequence, and it shows! I love the natural movements of the characters, particularly the quizzical looks in the fourth to last panel. The fourth panel where George is reminiscing also made me laugh; well done making it detailed but not cluttered! For some reason, I’m really digging George’s outfit, I don’t know why. But I like his sweater-vest-tunic and high collar, and Angelina’s hairband adds a nice bit of personality that I think keeps in line with her upbeat, confident nature. Overall, really wonderfully done; I know sequences are hard to keep consistent the whole way through, and she did a really great job of maintaining style and quality.

Second Place
True Friendship by =demonic-black-cat

Congratulations :icondemonic-black-cat:! I realize that both my first and second place prizes go to pretty much the same scene, but both are excellently done, and they happened to pick my favourite scene of the story. There’s some really nice use of texture here; it creates the feeling of being in the midst of the noisy shop even though there’s no background. And actually, since they all have their eyes closed, it’s sort of symbolic of how they’re feeling—like things are cloudy and swirling around them despite being right in the centre of it all. It gives the feeling that they are relying truly and wholly on each other, and that’s all that they need to pull through. Haha, probably a little in depth, but it goes to show not everything needs a full background to be effective! I like the character variations, too, the way Angelina’s expression is different from Lee’s, and the obvious feeling of true friendship, as said in the title. Well done! A simple scene, with simple elements, but with a lot of believability and strength!

Third Place
Not Coming Back by ~Satori-Blackthorn

Congratulations :iconsatori-blackthorn:! She made it so hard on me to decide that I added another prize! This entry intrigued me as soon as she sent it in. This scene is so understated—wedged between the more vivid scenes of George’s nightmare and visiting Fred’s grave—and so it never crossed my mind as one to illustrate. But as she says in her artist comments, it really is a turning point for George. It must have been a very hard thing to do, leaving a house full of grief to return to a place that harbours even more memories. I also like that it’s in traditional media, which I have never quite had the patience to work in. The different angle also makes the picture interesting to look at; the perspective is a little off in some places, like with the fruit bowl and water glass, but as I’m pretty awful at perspective, I can easily overlook these things to commend her using an angle that’s not just 90-degree lines. Nice choice of scene, and beautiful rendering!

Fourth Places
These three also did wonderful jobs, and I really had a hard time making up my mind. So they’ll also get a small prize (read below) as thanks for putting forth so much effort and time into their entries!

Was it a dream? by ~InTwilight

:iconintwilight:’s piece does a great job of capturing that uncertainty when you just wake up from a vivid dream. I like the way his sheets are thrown off like he’s been restless, and the details around the room. Nice job with the skylights and also with George’s posture; it looks natural but still startled and on edge. Great work!

In celebration of Fred Weasley by ~lovely-noise

I can tell :iconlovely-noise: had a really fun time adding details to this scene! And she gets kudos for adding Snape onto the wall—it’s something that I wrote in the story but don’t actually have up in my illustration of the memory wall. Also, as a really minute observation, I’m pretty sure there’s a photo of Fred in front of a pyramid with an Egyptian head cloth thing on? Haha, I really like that! Way to get creative with everything! Really nice job.

Farewell Fred by *picklelova

:iconpicklelova: finished this pic with her laptop finger pad, so I commend her on that alone! The fireworks are great; nice brush choice for that. I also like how sooty and smudged George is from setting off his fireworks; I always have trouble getting the right kind of look for dirt and smudges, so good job!

No, he's just not coming back that day, and he's leaving really early in the morning, so he doesn't want his mum to wonder when he'll be home.

Perhaps we need to have dreams so wild they make us think we can't achieve them, but inspiring enough to make us try...

You hack your way through the jungle and there comes a point where the guide says "get out your cameras. The gorillas are around the corner." I grabbed my sketch book. The guide looked at me like I was an idiot.

Thanks so much! :) I'm super honored that you made a third place, and that you awarded my piece with it!
Thanks also for the nice comments, and for pointing out the errors in perspective - there's a reason why I don't often draw backgrounds... Though I do see what you mean with the water glass and fruit bowl!! I'll be sure to keep what I learned in mind for next time ('cause I definitely need the practice!)
How would you like us to notify you about awardy type details?
Thanks again for the award, and the opportunity!
